Revitalizing Downtown
On June 20, 2008 Dr. Avi Friedman toured the downtown and Main Street areas. Following this tour a lecture on “Retooling Downtown” by Dr. Friedman as a focus group session was held. Dr Friedman is a Professor of Architecture at McGill University as well as the Director of the Affordable Homes Program. Dr Friedman has been engaged by a number of Alberta communities including Grande Prairie and Drayton Valley. The purpose of Dr. Friedman’s visit was to solicit his expertise with respect to the future development potential and sustainability of the downtown area. Surveys and invitations were sent out to downtown business owners and community stakeholders inviting them to attend the lecture and the focus group session in Council Chambers on June 20, 2008. As well, the survey solicited their comments with respect to the downtown and Main Street areas. *Source Talk of The Town news letter
