The Slave Lake Winterhawks start the playoff season on Saturday with home ice advantage.  The first round of the playoffs against Athabasca will get underway at the Arctic Ice Centre at 8:00 pm.

On Sunday, February 1, the Winterhawks will travel to Athabasca for the second game of the best out of three series. Game time is 2:45 pm.

The Winterhawks earned home ice advantage when they won their last game of the season against Drayton Valley on Saturday, January 24th and ended up placing second in the North Division of the NCHL.

Predictions are that Slave Lake will win the series against Athabasca. “Slave Lake in three” commented one guest on the Fox Creek Bandits chat forum.

During regular season play, Slave Lake faced Athabasca 4 times and came away with 2 wins – one on home ice and one in Athabasca. Based on regular season play, the series could go either way.

Sheldon Ghostkeeper has been outstanding in goal the last few games of the season and with a full bench the Hawks should have no problem making it to the second round of the playoffs.
