“We wish to advise all individuals that are considering holding a party that they face receiving a $250 ticket for disturbing others” say Slave Lake RCMP. “The second call results in a $500 ticket so it can get to be an expensive night very fast.”
For the weekend of March 6 the RCMP reported that a number of house parties resulted in noise complaint calls to the Slave Lake detachment. In all instances police say that the revelers understood the need to keep the noise level down and not disturb their neighbours.
Noise complaints were also part of the police report for the weekend of February 27. Police were called to the NOVA apartment building several times for various loud parties. Police say all of the calls were as a result of loud music and were quickly shut down.
The Town of Slave Lake Noise bylaw states that “No occupant shall make, cause to be made, or permit to be made any loud, unnecessary, or unusual noise which annoys, disturbs, injures, endangers, or distracts from the comfort, repose, health, peace, or safety of any person within the Town of Slave Lake. This section of the bylaw would apply 24 hours a day but would be especially applicable during the ‘Quiet Hour.‘
The Town of Slave Lake‘Noise Abatement Bylaw‘ defines a ‘Quiet Hour‘ between the hours of 10 p.m and 7 a.m on weekdays and between 10 p.m and 9 a.m on Sundays and holidays. During the quiet hour the bylaw states that no person shall carry on construction of any type, no occupant shall operate a lawn mower, snow removal machine or other motor driven machine in a residential area.
