“Get a permit before you burn,” says Leah Lovequist local PIEOP Officer with Sustainable Resource Development. From May 7 to May 9, there were nine wildfire starts in the Lesser Slave Area- 8 of the fires have been extinguished and 1 is under control. 

So far this season, there has been 40 wildfires and 25.46 hectares burned in the Lesser Slave Area, and provincially, there were 252 wildfires.

Starting April 1, permits are required to conduct any type of burning- except lighting a campfire. Permits are free and available at any local  forestry office.
