Over 100 people came out to support the 1st Slave Lake Scouts Annual Kub Kar Rally held Saturday, May 2 at St. Mary of the Lake School.

“The day was a huge success,” said Kim Bradford, organizer, “there were 65 racers and this was the first year of inviting other scouting groups, and opening the races up to the public. Fox Creek Scouts travelled 2 1/2 hours with 20 participants. Everyone had a great time and every participant walked away with medallions, crests and a tummy full of chili.”

The Cub Car Rally is a fun event for the youth to show off their craftsmanship by building a vehicle for racing. Beavers aged 5-7 years-old race Beaver Buggies, Cubs aged 8-10 build and race Kub Cars, and Scouts aged 11-13 build and race 18 Wheelers.

“This year, we introduced a new vehicle for our new group of Venturers aged 14-17,” said Kim, “the Venturers and Leaders built and raced CO2 Cars and they turned out to be a big hit. Inviting the public to build Kub Cars has also got people talking- the rally is over and people are still asking if they can purchase a kit.”

A 1/2 page on the track was sponsored for $200 and a full page for $500. “Thanks to our sponsors, we raised $4350,” said Kim.
