Lots of Activities during “National Bullying Awareness” week

National Bullying Awareness week presentations at E.G Wahlstrom School, KARE Committee Coordinator Sheri Smears, Cst. Mark Becker and Cst. Joel DeGroot.
Grades 4-6 students at E.G. Wahlstrom School learned about the potentially harmful impacts of bullying on Nov. 17, 2009 as part of an educational awareness initiative coordinated by Principal Donna Melvin with the support of Slave Lake RCMP, Slave Lake’s KARE Committee Program and the Town of Slave Lake.
Guest speakers addressing students during the day included RCMP Cst. Joel DeGroot, KARE Committee Program Coordinator Sheri Smears and Town of Slave Lake Peace Officer Cst. Mark Becker.
The event was held in conjunction with National Bullying Awareness Week, which runs from Nov. 16 to 22
KARE presentations were also made at C.J. Schurter and St. Mary of the Lake school.
National Bullying Awareness Week encourages Albertans to share the responsibility of helping to prevent bullying, and to change behavioural patterns which can be harmful to others.

“Blue Wednesday” at E.G. Wahlstrom School. Ms Marni Morgan with her Grade 5 Class
In conjunction with “Bullying Awareness week” Friday, Nov. 20 was “Blue Friday and everyone was encouraged to wear blue as a sign of peace and safety today. (In Slave Lake it was BLUE WEDNESDAY because schools were closed on Friday.)
Former Canadian Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in establishing United Nations Peacekeepers, who wear blue as a symbol of peace as they perform their work around the world.
