If you missed the first presentation of the “Regional Arts Council Task Force” you have another opportunity to provide your support.

You can attend the presentation at the council meeting of the MD of Lesser Slave Lake #124 on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.

Forty enthusiastic people showed up to lend support at the Slave Lake town council meeting last Tuesday.

Sean McConnel, a member of the task force asked Town Council for a monetary contribution of $15,000 to help support the council in its first year of operation.

‘Our goal is to support, coordinate, develop, market, advocate for and acquire resources for the arts in our region,” said McConnel, we will seek membership from all individuals, societies and other groups interested in the “arts” in our region.

Other supporters spoke with passion and commitment about the idea of a “Regional Arts Council” and many emphasized that the time had come for the various art groups to work together to further the arts in the region.

Town Councillors were also enthusiastic about the idea and passed a motion to provide some monetary and in kind support to the “Regional Arts Council Task Force.”

To build momentum, the task force will host pilot projects in the first year and will work with other arts organizations to collaborate on events.

“The Regional Arts Council Task Force is anxious to build partnerships with the many groups in the region to further the arts,” said McConnel. “We expect the arts to become an integral part of life in this region.”
