Wednesday, Nov. 18 was shoebox collection day at C.J. Schurter, E.G.Wahlstrom and Roland Michener, and the schools put their “best foot forward” by contributing hundreds of shoeboxes for “Operation Christmas Child.”

“What an exciting time we had,” said Marge Prochyshyn coordinator of the  Operation Christmas Child shoebox program in Slave Lake, “we were so impressed with the high school, with all the young adults participating in the event for the first time and delivering over 200 filled shoeboxes.”

“The idea was brought to the Senior High Student Council and Junior High Leadership Program by Janice Nowchin,” said teacher Tara Boyle, I worked with the high school kids and Christine Boisvert worked with the junior high.”

“We were thrilled with the turnout as it’s the first time we’ve done this.

“We would really like to thank everyone who filled the boxes,” said Procyshyn, “teachers who organized the events and the mothers who got the tasks of filling the boxes.  All the children receiving the boxes will be so grateful.”
