Penn West donates $50,000 to Slave Lake Rotary Club Library
Carl Chykerda (centre left) superintendent for the Mitsue District of Penn West Petroleum Ltd. presents a cheque in the amount of $50,000 to Rotary Club Library Chairman Joe McWilliams on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010.
Joining in the celebrations are Rotary Club members (L to R) Sheri Smears, Wendy Barton, Amanda Mattern, Ali Mouallem, Harry Bartlett and library board members Mayor Karina Pillay-Kinnee, Darcie Acton, Theresa Seraphin, and librarian Lori Herdzik.
The Penn West donation will sponsor the Program and Activity Room and brings the library closer to its fundraising goal of $2.3 million.
As part of its fundraising campaign donors could sponsor different sections and rooms in the new library.
“We have sponsors for most of them but we still have a couple of opportunities for sponsorships such as the Art Wall and Reading Room,” said Herdzik.
“We also have a beautiful donor wall and donors of $500.00 and up will be displayed on the wall for the life of the building.”
The Slave Lake Rotary Club Library officially moved to their new location in the government building on December 4, 2009.
