How to reduce the carbon footprint in your home offered LIVE Online

NLC Workforce Development is offering an “Alternative Energy & Energy Efficiency Series LIVE Online from February, 2010 – April 2010. (Courses & Dates listed below).

Take a course LIVE online from the comfort of your home and have access to professional instructors.

The first course in the series ”is a 3 part series” on how to reduce the carbon footprint in your home and save energy (and money)at the same time. The series will be offered Tuesdays, February 9, 16 & 23 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

The fee for the 3 part series is  is $79.00 plus GST and participants must have a Windows or Macintosh computer with high speed internet connection. Click here for course description and registration forms.

Class 1: Tuesday, Feb. 9, Carbon Footprints will focus on how to calculate a building’s carbon footprint, the efficiency revolution, look at case studies of modern integrated building design and discuss the energy consumption in Alberta buildings.

Class 2: Tuesday, Feb. 16  Electricity, Heating Part 1 will focus on how to save on electricity by understanding power vampires, IT technology, lighting and appliances. Heating savings will focus on windows and the building envelope.

Class 3: Tuesday, Feb. 23  Heating Part 2, Water will focus on air tightness, programmable thermostats and hot water. Other topics covered will be water efficiency and conversation, landscaping for energy efficiency, transportation, energy efficient community design and resources.

The facilitator is Godo Stoyke, an award-winning environmental researcher and presenter with a Master of Science degree from the University of Alberta. Godo is president of Carbon Busters. (www.carbonbusters.org), a sustainability consultancy focusing on energy efficiency, green and zero carbon design, sustainability strategy, and environmental education.
