Get caught doing something nice for someone this week!

KARE Coordinator Sheri Smears at E.G.W School

“If you are caught doing something nice for someone during FROST FEST week, you will receive a gift certificate from various restaurants in town,” says KARE coordinator Sheri Smears.

The K.A.R.E. (Kindness And Respect for Everyone) Committee will be keeping an eye out for individuals who are committing Random Acts of Kindness, and we will be handing out Positive Tickets.”

Smears is challenging citizens to do at least 3 good deeds a day for the week. One kind or good thing for themselves, one for a family member or close friend and one for a casual aquaintance or stranger.

“Kindness is catching and  by being kind, violence in our society could be greatly reduced,” said Smears.

All this week, Smears will be scouting for good deeds at the Family Day Frolic in the Park and various other Frost Fest locations.

Thursday, Feb. 11, KARE and Youth Connections will be teaming up to serve hot dogs and hot chocolate at the Local Heroes Pond Hockey Challenge at Hilda Eben Park Rink from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The cost is a donation to the Community Food Bank.

In Slave Lake RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS WEEK Feb. 8 – 15, is being held the same week as FROST FEST and is dedicated to inspire people to practice acts of kindness and to “pass it on” to others.

  1. Once again the community of Slave Lake amazes me. I have witnessed already today, (the first day of Random Acts of Kindness WeeK) many kind acts. Most people don’t even think about doing these kind acts or deeds, it just seems to be a natural thing for so many citizens in our town. I saw a car stop for a mom and young daughter so they could cross the street. There were smiles on all three faces! I saw a person out for a walk stop and pick up some litter, and someone else held the door open for me at the post office. This is just three out of many “Random Acts of Kindness” that I witnessed this morning. Thank you !!!!

  2. The firefighters came and joined the seniors on Tuesday to play floor curling. We all had a ball.

Three 13 year Monday evening to join in with the board games.

  3. I have been so busy “catching” the citizens of Slave Lake doing kind acts that I have not had time to post some of them. We had a great time at games night at the lodge. Thanks to everyone that came out. The floor curling at the drop in center was also lots of fun (even though it got a little competitive) and the coffee and goodies were the perfect way to have a good visit. I have caught people letting other people go through the check out line in front of them, letting others out onto a busy intersection, students letting other students use the microwave before them so that they could make a meeting and the list goes on and on. Way to go Slave Lake, lets keep passing on the kindness feeling all year long.

  4. As I was going to Aguasize yesterday, a gentleman held the door open for us, when we got there the lockers were all full a little girl said I could have hers as soon as she emptied hers. When I went grocery shopping, two carts were plugging the lane, I moved mine to let a lady through.
